Cyprus Trade Deficit Widens In July

(RTTNews) - Cyprus' merchandise trade deficit increased from the previous month in July, data released by the statistical office showed in Tuesday.

The trade deficit advanced to EUR422 million in July from EUR359.35 million in June. In July 2011, the balance was a deficit of EUR393.08 million.

Export of goods increased modestly to EUR130 million in July from EUR127.74 million in the previous month. At the same time, the value of imports advanced to EUR551.97 million from EUR487.1 million in June, data showed.

In the January-July period, the trade balance was a deficit of EUR2.574 billion. Exports increased year-on-year during the seven-month period, while imports declined, data showed.

Separately, the agency said Cyprus' EU harmonized inflation accelerated to 4.5 percent in August from 3.8 percent in July. In June, the figure was 2.9 percent.
