Report: Credit Suisse customers investigated

(AP:BERLIN) Germany's Handelsblatt newspaper is reporting that the homes of German customers of Swiss bank Credit Suisse have been searched in a tax-evasion investigation.

The newspaper reported Wednesday that tax authorities based in the city of Wuppertal, North-Rhine Westphalia, were leading the investigation in Germany of the case that involves some 7,000 customers and several billion euros overall.

It quotes Credit Suisse spokesman Marc Dosch as saying that the bank has advised customers to consult tax experts and to make voluntary disclosures to authorities where appropriate. He would not give any other details.

Wuppertal tax authorities were not immediately available and Credit Suisse did not return a call seeking comment.
