Yemen airline not banned in EU despite crash

(AP:BRUSSELS) Yemen's national airline has escaped an EU blacklist despite calls for the carrier to be banned from flying to Europe following a June crash off the Comores islands that killed 152 people.

The EU air safety committee says the decision not to include it on the revised blacklist was made after a number of safety audits were carried out.

The committee extended blanket bans on all airlines registered in the African nations of Sao Tome and Principe, Djibouti and Democratic Republic of Congo.

The committee says that Angola's flag carrier TAAG will be permitted to increase the number of its flights to Portugal, despite it remaining on the EU blacklist.

It says the Angolan aviation authority and the carrier have made progress in improving safety.
