Turkey cancels nuke plant tender81 days ago
(AP:ANKARA, Turkey) Turkish energy officials say they have canceled a tender to construct the country's first nuclear power plant.
The Friday decision by the state electricity company comes after a court recently ruled against the tender's pricing and the location of the proposed plant. A Russian company was the only bidder.
It is not clear whether a new tender will be launched.
Turkey had said earlier that Russia's Atomstroiexport was technically qualified to do the job.
Turkey insists it needs nuclear technology to meet its growing energy needs even as it pressures Iran to cooperate with the international community to dispel concerns about its controversial nuclear program.
