Burlington Northern, Ford, UBS are big movers

(AP:NEW YORK) The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange:

NYSE:

Burlington Northern Santa Fe, up $20.93 at $97

Berkshire Hathaway Inc. agreed to buy the nation's second-largest railroad and biggest hauler of food products for $34 billion.

Johnson & Johnson, down 56 cents at $58.93

The company will cut up to about 8,000 jobs and streamline its operations as it braces for changes in the health care industry.

UBS AG, down 54 cents at $16.24

The Swiss bank posted a third-quarter net loss of 564 million Swiss francs ($542 million), blaming accounting charges.

Stanley Works, up $4.54 at $49.69

The tool maker agreed to pay $3.46 billion for rival Black & Decker Corp. to better position itself for a housing market recovery.

Ford Motor Co., down 14 cents at $7.44

Fords October sales rose 3 percent as the popular F-Series pickup truck helped the company boost its estimated market share.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., down 92 cents at $19.75

The cruise line said its third-quarter profit and revenue tumbled because it deeply discounted fares.

NASDAQ:

Canadian Solar Inc., up $1.72 at $16.41

An analyst upgraded the solar energy system maker's stock, citing an attractive stock value, reduced risk and better visibility.

Peet's Coffee & Tea Inc., up $3.88 at $38.44

The coffee chain retailer will buy wholesale roaster and distributor Diedrich Coffee Inc. for $213 million.
