(AP:NEW YORK) Shares of some top silver companies were up at the close of trading:

Hecla Mining Co. rose $.12 or 1.9 percent, to $6.36.

Pan American Silver Corp. rose $.95 or 4.8 percent, to $20.56.

Silver Standard Resources Inc. rose $.16 or 1.0 percent, to $16.08.

Silver Wheaton rose $1.04 or 2.7 percent, to $39.33.
