(AP:NEW YORK) Shares of some top health care equipment companies were mixed at the close of trading:

Becton, Dickinson & Co. rose $.54 or .7 percent, to $79.16.

Covidien rose $1.24 or 2.1 percent, to $59.02.

Patterson fell $.16 or .5 percent, to $34.39.

PerkinElmer rose $.96 or 3.3 percent, to $30.36.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. rose $.64 or 1.1 percent, to $60.61.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. fell $.16 or .3 percent, to $61.60.

Waters fell $.11 or .1 percent, to $85.04.
