Becton, Dickinson & Co. rose $.01 or percent, to $79.46.

Covidien fell $.65 or 1.1 percent, to $59.79.

Patterson rose $.27 or .8 percent, to $35.66.

PerkinElmer fell $.10 or .3 percent, to $30.30.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. fell $.40 or .7 percent, to $60.50.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. fell $.41 or .7 percent, to $60.65.

Waters rose $.02 or percent, to $84.37.
