Bailiffs try to evict Hong Kong Occupy activists

(AP:HONG KONG) Hong Kong's Occupy activists are locked in a standoff with bailiffs trying to evict them from a public walkway underneath the Asian headquarters of HSBC.

The anti-capitalist protesters scuffled with the bailiffs, who were trying on Monday to enforce a court order issued in August. Local television showed black-clad bailiffs trying to carry off some of the camp's dozen or so Occupy activists.

Hong Kong's Occupy faction is one of the global movement's longest-lived. They started camping out on Oct. 15, when protesters in Hong Kong joined others around the world in a day of demonstrations against corporate excess and economic inequality.

The movement is generally thought to have begun Sept. 17, when tents sprang up at Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan.
