Ala man charged with tweeting Obama threats
240 days ago
(AP:BIRMINGHAM, Ala.) A federal grand jury has indicted a Birmingham man on charges that he threatened the life of President Barack Obama on Twitter.
Twenty-five-year-old Jarvis Britton was charged Wednesday with knowingly threatening the life of the president.
U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance says the indictment charged Britton with knowingly threatening to kill, kidnap or inflict bodily harm on Obama. She says on Sept. 14, Britton sent on Twitter the message, "Let's kill the president. F.E.A.R."
Several people, including soldiers from Georgia's Fort Stewart, have been connected to a national militia group that prosecutors say was called F.E.A.R. _ Forever Enduring Always Ready. They said the group had a range of terrorism plans and its ultimate goal was to overthrow the U.S. government and assassinate the president.
Prosecutors on Wednesday didn't say if Britton was tied to the group.
