Va manufacturing research center gets new members

(AP:PRINCE GEORGE, Va.) An advanced manufacturing research center in Virginia's Prince George County is getting three new partners.

Officials say the newest industry members of the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing will play a critical role in providing equipment for the facility. It's being touted as a way to create a high-tech manufacturing hub.

Construction of the 60,000-square-foot facility was completed earlier this month. It will do research for a group of manufacturing companies under a partnership with Virginia Tech, Virginia State University and the University of Virginia. Research already is under way at member-university labs.

The new members are: Buehler, Cool Clean Technologies and GF AgieCharmilles. They join others in the consortium that will support the center's research, including Rolls-Royce, Newport News Shipbuilding and Siemens.
