(AP:BOSTON) Despite predictions of lower prices with the end of the summer driving season, the average cost of a gallon gas shot up by a dime in Massachusetts in the last week.

AAA Southern New England reports Monday that a gallon of self-serve, regular jumped to $3.90 per gallon. Prices have not gone up 17 cents in the past month.

The current price in Massachusetts is four cents above the national average for self-serve regular, unleaded and 28 cents higher than at the same time last year.

AAA found self-serve, regular selling for as low as $3.77 per gallon and as high as $4.09.
