Becton, Dickinson & Co. rose $1.45 or 1.9 percent, to $75.94.

Covidien rose $2.27 or 4.3 percent, to $55.53.

Patterson rose $.92 or 2.7 percent, to $35.24.

PerkinElmer rose $.86 or 3.5 percent, to $25.74.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. rose $1.41 or 2.6 percent, to $56.10.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. rose $1.83 or 3.4 percent, to $55.56.

Waters rose $1.97 or 2.6 percent, to $79.06.
