AAA: Rain, gas costs hold SC Labor Day travel flat

(AP:CHARLESTON, S.C.) The number of South Carolina motorists taking to the highways this Labor Day weekend will be about the same as last year.

AAA Carolinas predicts about 425,000 motorists will travel more than 50 miles from home during the five-day period starting Thursday and ending on Labor Day.

The weather across the state is expected to be dreary as a result of tropical moisture pumped into the Southeast from Tropical Storm Isaac. Gas prices are up, increasing about a penny a day since the Fourth of July.

The average price per gallon is now $3.49. That's 11 cents more than gas was last Labor Day.
