Macau probes Sands China over privacy breach

(AP:HONG KONG) The Chinese unit of U.S. billionaire Sheldon Adelson's gambling company says it's being investigated by Macau privacy authorities for sending documents related to a legal dispute with its fired CEO out of the territory.

Sands China said Wednesday it was notified by Macau's privacy watchdog that an official investigation has been launched into the alleged transfer of "certain data" from the Asian gambling hub to the U.S.

The company revealed no other details. The probe follows statements by former Sands China CEO and president Steve Jacobs in U.S. legal filings that Las Vegas Sands withheld documents related to his wrongful dismissal lawsuit.

Sands lawyers at first said they were not allowed to move the documents out of Macau. But they revealed recently that the files had been transferred in error.
