Dutch Consumer Sentiment Drops To Record Low

(RTTNews) - Consumer confidence in the Netherlands deteriorated to a historic low in June, data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics showed Wednesday.

The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index dropped to -40 in June from -38 in May, hitting a record low similar to that registered in July 2003.

Households' perceptions of the Dutch economy turned more pessimistic during the month. The relevant indicator dropped to -65 from the previous month's reading of -61 as consumers' views of the current economic situation as well as expectations for the the next twelve months turned more downbeat.

The sub-indicator of consumer's views of their own finances in the past 12 months decreased to -24 in June from -22 in May, while the expectations index for the next 12-month period remained stable at -25.

At the same time, the measure of households' willingness to make new purchases remained unchanged at a historical low of -23 during the month, data showed.
