Australia Housing Starts Continue To Fall

(RTTNews) - Dwelling commencements in Australia declined for a fourth consecutive quarter in the March quarter, a report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed Wednesday.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, housing starts fell 12.6 percent quarter-on-quarter in the first quarter. This was much worse than the expected 2.3 percent decline. In the final quarter of 2011, housing starts fell 4.5 percent.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for new private sector house commencements fell 7.8 percent in the March quarter following a fall of 2.6 percent in the December quarter.
