DJ BASE METALS HIGHLIGHTS: Top Stories Of The Day74 days ago
Zambia's largest cobalt smelter, Chambishi Metals PLC has refused to process locally mined mineral ores because of the higher production costs, a company official said Friday.
ESSEN, Germany (Dow Jones)--German steelmaker and industrial conglomerate ThyssenKrupp AG (TKA.XE) said Friday it predicts a slow recovery for its business and the wider economy, but it still expects to return to profits in the current fiscal year.
LONDON (Dow Jones)--A third party is expected to be sought to partner the government of Greenland and U.S. aluminum producer Alcoa Inc. (AA) in a new smelter project, an executive at Greenland Development Inc. said Friday.
YAOUNDE, Cameroon (Dow Jones)--The general manager of the Societe Camerounaise d'Aluminium, or Alucam, Cameroon's lone primary alumina smelter, has said the firm will soon restart a shelved plan, initiated to triple the company's yearly alumina output from the current annual production capacity of 90,000 metric tons.
Zambia's state environmental watchdog has approved the proposed granulating slug dump for the country's largest copper miner, Konkola Copper Mines, on the Copper Belt, the agency said Friday.
SANTIAGO (Dow Jones)--Chile's Spence copper mine is expected to ramp up to full production capacity in January, following a 42-day labor strike that paralyzed operations, a spokesman for the mine's controller said.
LONDON (Dow Jones)--The financial crisis, reduced metal demand, and increased uncertainty impacted the development of the Guinea Alumina Project, an executive at the project developer said Friday.
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Investors are dumping riskier assets like copper, other commodities and equities Friday morning and moving into the U.S. dollar on rippling fears of fallout following a debt freeze for Dubai's largest corporate entity and the devaluation of the Vietnamese currency.
