DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

El Salvadoran coffee exports in October, the first month of the new 2009-10 crop cycle, were down 27% at 21,149 60-kilogram bags, the official Salvadoran Coffee Council said Thursday.

This compares with exports of 29,000 bags in October last year during the 2008-09 crop cycle, the council said in a preliminary report. The crop cycle runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30 the following year.

El Salvadoran coffee exports in the 2008-09 crop cycle ended down 6.6% at 1,370,751 bags, from 1,467,387 bags in the 2007-08 crop year, the council said last month.
