BANGALORE (Dow Jones)--Global coffee prices are likely to remain firm at current levels as the supply situation remains tight, Nestor Osorio, executive director of the International Coffee Organization, said Wednesday.

BANGALORE (Dow Jones)--India's largest integrated coffee grower, Tata Coffee Ltd. (532301.BY), has shelved its plan to set up a 3,600-metric-ton-a-year instant coffee plant in Uganda, its managing director said Thursday.

March world raw sugar futures fell Wednesday, pressured by speculative selling backed by a firm U.S. dollar, falling crude oil futures and mixed commodity indexes.

SAO PAULO (Dow Jones)--The total volume of cocoa arrivals from Bahia and other Brazilian states slowed to 31,015 60-kilogram bags in the week ended Oct. 4 from 38,381 bags the prior week, the Commercial Association of Bahia said this week.

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--German cocoa bean grindings in the third quarter rose 11.2% to 98,315 metric tons, compared with 88,426 tons in the same period last year, the Association of the German Confectionary Industry said Wednesday.

U.S. cocoa futures rose Wednesday on support from friendly German quarterly grindings and technical buying linked to prices holding at the upper end of the recent trading band.

Costa Rica's coffee industry has logged in contracts for 568,989 (60-kilogram) bags of coffee from the upcoming 2009-10 crop in forward sales through Oct. 2, the official Costa Rican Institute, or Icafe, said Wednesday.

Colombia's National Federation of Coffee Growers, or Fedecafe, on Wednesday set the daily coffee export price at $1.7410 per pound, up from $1.7145/lb on Oct. 6.

BANGALORE, India (Dow Jones)--India's Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Co. Ltd. is looking to acquire a coffee chain in Europe, its chairman said Wednesday.

SAO PAULO (Dow Jones)--Brazilian green coffee exports for Oct. 1-6 hit 127,088 60-kilogram bags, according to preliminary figures from the Brazilian Green Coffee Exporters Council, or Cecafe.

BANGALORE (Dow Jones)--Coffee output in India, Asia's third-largest producer, is likely to be above 300,000 metric tons in the crop year that began Oct. 1, the chairman of the state-run Coffee Board said Wednesday.

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--ICE Futures U.S. arabica coffee posted modest gains Wednesday in line with consolidative moves in equities, commodities and the U.S. dollar.
