JAKARTA (Dow Jones)--PT Freeport Indonesia, a unit of U.S. mining giant Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX), almost doubled its copper output and nearly tripled its gold output in the first half compared with the same period last year as a result of mining higher grade ores, a company spokesman said Monday.
Zambia's January-June 2009 copper output increased by 18% on year propelled by rising global copper prices and expansion projects at major copper mines, the central bank said over the weekend.
LIMA (Dow Jones)--Key sectors of Peru's economy contracted in June, the government-run National Statistics Agency, INEI, said over the weekend.
Zambia's Luanshya Copper Mines will resume underground mining operations at Baluba Copper Mine on Aug. 9, the Daily Mail of Zambia reports Monday, without citing sources.
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Copper futures hit their highest point in 10 months on a combination of bullish economic data, a weaker U.S. dollar and follow-through buying.
LONDON (Dow Jones)--Copper prices on the London Metal Exchange traded above $6,000 a metric ton, hitting a fresh 10-month high Monday due to U.S. dollar weakness and data from the U.S. that showed improvement in its economy.
