BEIJING (Dow Jones)--The global nickel industry will face further production cutbacks in the short term, as well as project deferrals, with limited scope for sustained price rises while stocks overhang persists, said John Barkas, director of Metalytics Pty Ltd., in an industry conference Wednesday.
SYDNEY (Dow Jones)--Xstrata PLC (XTA.LN) said Wednesday it has temporarily closed its George Fisher zinc mine in Mount Isa in Queensland, Australia following the death of an employee late Tuesday.
LIMA (Dow Jones)--Peru's National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy said Tuesday that Doe Run Peru hadn't lived up to promises made when the company received a recent private-sector financing deal.
