NEW YORK (Dow Jones) - Higher ethanol prices and lower sugar plantings will lead export demand to outstrip Brazil's sugar production in the coming crop year, said a Brazilian consultant Wednesday.
SAO PAULO (Dow Jones)--Brazil coffee industry members predicted Wednesday the new coffee crop likely will be above 40 million 60-kilogram bags, and they expect the government's National Commodities Supply Corp., or Conab, to raise its earlier estimate.

LONDON (Dow Jones)--World coffee production in 2009-10 is set to exceed consumption by around 12.4 million 60-kilogram bags, compared with a surplus of 6.46 million bags in 2008-09, said Fortis Bank in its monthly report Wednesday.
Coffee production from Costa Rica's 2008-09 harvest through April 23 was down 15% at 1,622,744 (60-kilogram) bags, the Costa Rican Coffee Institute, or Icafe, said Wednesday.
