Obama To Receive Nobel Peace Prize In Oslo On December 10 70 days ago
(RTTNews) - US President Barack Obama will arrive in Norwegian capital Oslo December 9 night to receive his Nobel Peace Prize, state-owned broadcaster NRK reported Tuesday, quoting the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Obama will be coming from the Danish capital of Copenhagen, after attending the United Nations conference on climate change.
Obama will receive the award on December 10, the death anniversary of its founder Alfred Nobel, at a ceremony in Oslo City Hall, where a banquet will also be held in his honor.
His programs in Norway also include a reception at the royal palace with King Harald and Queen Sonja, and a meeting with Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.
Geir Lundestad, secretary of the committee, said the Norwegian government is stepping up security measures in view of the US president's visit. Obama plans to donate the prize money of 10 million Swedish crowns ($1.4 million) to charity, the White House said.
Obama, the first African-American President of USA, was awarded this year's Nobel Peace Prize in September "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
