7 Killed, 50 Missing In Bangladesh Ferry Accident

(RTTNews) - At least seven people were killed and over 50 others missing after an overcrowded ferry capsized in southern Bangladesh, said officials and local news reports on Friday.

According to officials, the accident happened when the ferry was approaching a river station near the town of Lalmohan on Bhola Island. They said that there were some 1,000 passengers on the ferry, when it capsized.

Local reports said that the ferry was overcrowded with people trying to get back home from Dhaka for celebrating the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha. The ferry had set off from Dhaka on Friday afternoon.

Officials identified the ferry involved in the accident as MV Coco-4, one of Bangladesh's largest inland vessels. They added that search operations are continuing, with divers managing to recover at least seven bodies so far. Many more people are still believed to the trapped inside the partly-sunk ferry.
