Reports: Several Feared Killed As Train Derails In Russia 73 days ago
(RTTNews) - Several people are feared to have died after four carriages of a train traveling from Moscow to St. Petersburg derailed on Friday evening, according to officials and local news reports.
Russian media reports suggested that there were fatalities and injuries in the incident. They, however, did not specify the number of people killed or injured in the accident. Also, the reason for the derailment is not yet clear.
According to Russia's official RIA Novosti new agency, the accident occurred between the border between the Tver and Novgorod regions. It also quoted officials as saying that a power outrage might have caused the accident.
The RIA Novosti report also quoted a Moscow police official as saying that the driver of the ill-fated train had applied emergency brakes just before the derailment. It identified the train involved in the accident as the Nevsky Express.
