French Parliament Adopts Indo-French N-deal 74 days ago
(RTTNews) - India got past one more milestone when the French Parliament unanimously adopted the Indo-French civil nuclear agreement, paving way for French companies to build nuclear power plants in India.
A French Embassy statement said in New Delhi Friday that the country's National Assembly adopted Thursday a law authorizing the ratification of the Co-operation Agreement between the two countries on the Development of Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy. The French Senate voted for the agreement October 15.
"The unanimous vote by both Assemblies is an important milestone in the development of the civilian nuclear co-operation between France and India," the statement said.
France is the first country to have signed a civil nuclear co-operation agreement with India within days of the lifting of the three-decade-old international nuclear trade embargo on India last year by the 45-member Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
Under the MoU, French nuclear supplier Areva will build six nuclear power plants at Jaitapur in the western coastal Indian state of Maharashtra. Each will have a capacity of 1,600 MW. The actual contract for the first two plants will be signed early next year.
