Top Official Of Iranian Consulate Killed In Pakistan 8 days ago
(RTTNews) - A top official of the Iranian Consulate in Pakistan's north- west frontier city of Peshawar was shot dead Thursday, reports quoting officials said.
Police said Abdul Hasan Jaffery, Director of Pubic Relations at the Consulate, was attacked by two gunmen while leaving home in Peshawar for office.
A prominent Pakistani journalist, Jaffery resigned as Press Officer of the provincial government a few years ago to join the Iranian mission.
North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has ordered an inquiry into the killing.
Reports say that Iranian diplomats and nationals in Pakistan have been targeted since more than a decade ago amid Shiite-Sunni sectarian tensions.
The attack comes in less than a month after 42 people were killed in suicide bombing in south-east Iran. Tehran blamed the attack on Pakistan-based agents of the Sunni resistance group, Jundullah.
