91 Killed In El Salvador Flooding 12 days ago
(RTTNews) - At least 91 people have been killed and many are missing in El Salvador by flooding following days of torrential rain caused by Hurricane Ida, the government said on Sunday. Several others are still missing and authorities expect to find more bodies.
The Government has declared a state of emergency in five of the Central American nation's regions, Interior Minister Humberto Centeno said.
The capital of San Salvador and central San Vicente province are the hardest-hit regions. Homes in the San Vicente municipalities of Verapaz, and Tepetitan were crushed in an avalanche following continuous rains.
El Salvador has been on a state of high alert since Thursday as heavy rains began to affect the region, destroying homes and leaving people homeless in Nicaragua as the storm moved through.
