(RTTNews) - The British currency spiked up further against major currencies during New York morning trading on Tuesday. The pound climbed to new multi-day highs against the Swiss franc and the euro in the same period.

The CIPS/Markit construction purchasing managers' index fell to 46.2 in October from 46.7 recorded in September, survey data released by the U.K.'s Markit Economics showed today. Economists had expected a reading of 47.2.

The pound edged up against the euro and the Swiss franc in New York morning today. At 10:30 am ET, the pound advanced to new multi-day highs of 0.8943 against the euro and 1.6916 versus the franc, compared to yesterday's closing values of 0.9008 and 1.6768, respectively.

After touching an 8-day low of 1.6264 by about 6:55 am ET, the sterling ticked up against the US dollar in today's New York deals. The pound-greenback pair that closed yesterday's New York session at 1.6410, climbed to 1.6419 as of 10:40 am ET.

Against the Japanese yen, the British currency also traded higher in New York morning from previous session's low of 146.44. At 10:45 am ET, the pound hit a high of 148.46 versus the yen, which may be compared to Monday's close of 148.06.
