Ireland Live Register Total Drops For Third Month

(RTTNews) - The number of persons singing-up for job-seekers' allowance in Ireland decreased for the third straight month in October, data released by the Central Statistics Office showed Thursday.

The number of persons signing up on the live register, on an unadjusted basis, dropped to 420,172 in October from 429,335 in September, marking the third successive decline. Compared to October 2011, the live register total decreased by 2.4 percent.

The number of long term claimants on the register advanced 4.6 percent year-on-year to 188,117 during the month, while the number of short-term claimants decreased by 7.4 percent. The number of casual and part-time workers on the register in October was higher by 0.7 percent compared to a year earlier.

Meanwhile, the standardized unemployment rate in Ireland remained unchanged at 14.8 percent in October. The latest figure was higher than 14.5 percent recorded a year earlier, data showed.
