(RTTNews) - A leading indicator of the Malaysian economy remained unchanged in August, after rising slightly in the previous month, data released by the Department of Statistics showed Wednesday.

The leading economic index, which monitors the economic performance in advance, remained unchanged at 112.7 in August. In June, the reading was 112.5.

Decreases in three components of the headline index were offset by increases in the components of Expected Sales Value in Manufacturing Sector and the Bursa Malaysia Industrial Index.

Compared to August 2011, the leading index gained 2 percent, after rising 2.3 percent in the previous month, the agency said.

The coincident economic index, which measures the current situation, edged down to 115.3 in August from 115.5 in the previous month. Meanwhile, the lagging index increased to 128.9 from 127.3 in July, data showed.
