(RTTNews) - Japan's leading index improved less than initially estimated in August, final data from the Cabinet Office showed Friday.

The leading index, which is designed to measure the direction of the economy in the months ahead, rose to 93.2 from 93 a month ago. The initial estimate for August was 93.6.

The coincident index, meanwhile, fell more than the preliminary estimate. The reading was revised down to 93.5 from 93.6. It fell from 93.8 in July. The index measures the current economic activity.

The lagging index climbed to revised 87.3 in August from 86.7 in the prior month.
