Afghan Haqqani Leader Killed In Airstrike

(RTTNews) - A leader of the Afghan Haqqani militant network was killed in an air strike on Wednesday.

A press release issued by NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) on Thursday identified him by his single name, Nasrullah. During an operation in Paktiya province, Afghan-coalition forces positively identified Nasrullah engaging in insurgent activity in an isolated area away from civilians, and carried out the precision air strike, ISAF added.

Also on Wednesday, Afghan-coalition forces arrested an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan financial facilitator in Kunduz province. He is suspected of being heavily involved in purchasing and trafficking weapons for use in attacks on Afghan and coalition forces in the province.

Security forces also detained multiple suspected insurgents in the operation.

The Afghan police in Baghlan, enabled by coalition forces, seized a cache of weapons believed to be linked to a Taliban leader in Baglan province. The Afghan-led troops recovered a number of rockets, an anti-tank mine, more than 40 mortar rounds and two hand grenades.
